ICC Macmillan SELECTED AS WORLD BANK COMPOSITOR

PORTLAND, OR, January, 2002—ICC Macmillan, a leading publishing services company, has been selected as a compositor for the World Bank, one of the world’s largest sources of development assistance. ICC Macmillan will provide composition services for many of the approximately 400–500 documents that the Bank produces per year.
During the testing and written proposal stage, ICC Macmillan obtained high scores, making ICC Macmillan a natural choice for the Bank. According to the World Bank, the award was based on the company’s ability to offer effective project management, flexible customer service, facility to meet rapid turnaround times, and best overall value to the Bank.
The products that require composition services include one- to four-color books, newsletters, and brochures. They range in complexity from simple all-text documents to complex documents containing large numbers of figures, tables, charts, mathematical formulas, photos, and maps.
ICC Macmillan’s background in full service technical publishing meshed well with the World Bank’s need for a compositor that could work with complex publications, including foreign languages. ICC Macmillan’s expertise in the fields of math, science, engineering, economics, accounting, medicine, Russian, Japanese, and more has given the staff a keen eye for technical and complex data. ICC Macmillan’s clients depend on the company’s experience to recognize and understand the best way to set difficult characters and material.
The Bank’s documents to date have focused primarily on information dissemination to its stakeholders, development partners, business, and trading partners as well as to its 10,000 employees worldwide. Most of the documents are directed toward international policy makers, academics and researchers, the financial and banking communities, and nongovernmental organizations.
